cork comes from a unique species of trees - cork oak, which is recorded mainly in Portugal, but also in Spain, France, Italy and North Africa;
cork oak is distinguished by its thick corrugated bark, which becomes a cork after thermal treatment;
it is a neutral, chemically inert material;
natural cork has been known since ancient times;
to this day, the best stoppers for alcoholic beverages stored in cool rooms are bottle caps;
cork is an excellent thermal and acoustic insulator;
shows resistance to fungi and bacteria;
the cork cells are dead and filled with air;
it is very light and practically unsinkable material.
